The Ranch Rodeo is the kick-off event for the 112th annual Cowboys' Round Up Days Celebration and will mark an important milestone as the first ever Working Ranch Cowboys Association-sanctioned Ranch Rodeo in Steamboat Springs.
About the Events
Participating teams are comprised of three-six cowboys and the events are run independently of one another.
Ranch Bronc Riding is “Ride as ride can” for 8 seconds in a standard ranch saddle.
Wild Cow Milking features a four-man team with one roper, a milker and two muggers and has a two-minute time limit for theteams to capture milk into a 12-ounce longneck bottle.
Stray Gathering is also a four-man team and has a two-minute time limit, all on horseback, with two steers to rope (each member must either head and heel one of the steers) and each steer must be tied (three legs) and stay tied for six seconds.
Team Branding is comprised of four to six man teams and two teams compete in the arena at the same. One roper must rope two calves in the herd and “drag” the calf to the fire for mock branding with fastest time on two calves providing the winning margin.
TRAILER LOADING utilizes a four-man team with three on horseback. Yearlings in a herd are numbered and each team will rope a specific numbered yearling, lead it to the trailer and load it along with two horses. All four Cowboys then must jump in the truck to complete the event, -- again based on the fastest time.
